Online Mentorship Program

Paint loosely, and with more realism! Learn the building blocks of realistic, representational painting: value, color, and brushwork. Whether you’re a beginner or an artist looking to build your skills, my aim is to help you reach your goals, with a combination of lessons, one-on-one support, and inspiration.

“Sarah is a wonderful mentor and gives great guidance to those of any level of painting skill! Highly recommend her if you feel stuck or in need of help progressing forward.”

 -Amy I.  Philadelphia, PA

“I have now taken three months of lessons with Sarah Sedwick through her on-line mentorship program.
It has been a revelation. Not only has my drawing confidence improved immeasurably, but my entire approach to planning a painting has changed with positive results.
Sarah is an excellent mentor – she is honest, helpful, pleasant and extremely attentive to her students.
I would highly recommend her to any painter, new or experienced, who wants to take their skill to the next level.”       -Robin R.  New York, USA

I just wanted to let you know that your mentoring has made a huge difference in the quantity and quality of my work. :)  And I really appreciate having a good peer group.” - Susan P. Carrboro, NC

I love watching students develop their skills and their unique artistic eye - and mentoring gives me the opportunity to work with artists who can't attend my in-person workshops. Teaching is such a rewarding experience for me. I've been incredibly proud of my online students' success!

What sets my mentorship program apart from others is the one-on-one interaction. With a limited number of members, the curriculum can be very individualized. Though there is no time commitment to participate - enrollment is on a monthly basis - working together over the long term, I have seen real progress in the artists I mentor. I am also deeply involved in mentoring art instructors of all types.

The focus of my lessons is oil painting. I'm also a big believer in sketchbooks, and recommend a "drawing-a-day" habit to all my students. Just 15-20 minutes a day will make a huge difference in your painting!

In painting, we start with black and white. Black and white studies are my favorite way to improve on that most indispensable fundamental of all representational art: the mastery of value relationships.

Color won't be far behind - most of my work is about color - and my approach involves lots of color theory, mixing practice, and working with limited palettes to deepen your familiarity with every paint color you choose.
